Crafting the Perfect Cold Brew with Cortez #5 and Uwe - EN

specialty-coffeee

In the heat of summer, nothing refreshes quite like a cold brew coffee. Smooth, chilled, and delicious, it's a beverage that's steeped in patience and rich, full-bodied flavors. This method is specifically for those who appreciate a fruity coffee with a rounded aftertaste, like our Cortez #5 with its tropical fruit start and milk chocolate finish, or our Uwe with its fruity pineapple start and vanilla aftertaste.

For the cold brew method, we use a 1:10 coffee to water ratio. That’s 90 grams of coffee to 900 grams of water, whether you’re using a French press or the Dripdrip Brewjar.

The magic begins with the blooming process. This involves dampening the coffee grounds with water heated to 93°C-96°C, the same temperature we use for filter or aeropress brewing, to suit the light roast profile of our coffees.

The blooming step is vital as it allows the coffee to de-gas, releasing the CO2 that might otherwise prevent water from infusing properly with the coffee. You want to ensure all 90 grams of coffee are adequately dampened during blooming, waiting until you see no more CO2 bubbles popping on the surface.

Once bloomed, pour in the rest of your cold water, adhering to our 1:10 ratio. Then, patience takes center stage. Place your brew in the refrigerator and allow it to steep for at least 7 hours, ensuring a beautifully extracted and balanced flavor profile.

Finally, remove the coffee basket from your Dripdrip Brewjar or filter your coffee if you're using a French press. What's left is a refreshingly cool coffee concentrate, ready to be savored.

Enjoy this decadent and invigorating cold brew recipe. Let the flavors of the Cortez #5 or Uwe whisk you away to a tropical paradise, offering an exquisite start to your day, or the perfect afternoon refreshment.

As you savor the intricate flavors of your cold brew coffee, bear in mind that this brewing method usually results in a higher caffeine content than hot brewed coffee. This is due to the prolonged contact of the water with the coffee grounds, which allows for more caffeine extraction. So while you're enjoying the tropical nuances of Cortez #5 or the pineapple-vanilla blend of Uwe, remember that this delightful beverage also packs a stronger punch of energy. Enjoy responsibly and adjust your consumption according to your caffeine tolerance. This cold brew recipe is not just a sensory delight, but also a great pick-me-up for those long summer days. Enjoy!
